Hello readers,
Today the class and I went to University of the Pacific's Reynolds Gallery to take a gander at photographer, Kirk Crippens, Foreclosure, USA exhibition.
Likes: I loved the large prints and how they were presented. Even though the photos were framed two different ways in two different rooms, I thought both suited the concept well. Simple. The colors/tones were nice and complimented each other throughout the entire exhibit. I thought the overcast skies in ALL his landscape photos was a good way of showing gloomy times, being in a recession and all, and keeping it consistent was a plus. The lighting in some of the photos were very captivating.
Dislikes: I am pretty anal when it comes to quality. The prints, presentation were very nice, but the use of a wide angle lens left the edges very soft compared to the center. That is not Kirk's fault at all, just how the lens works. I also understand that most of the subject matter is in the center of the image, so having soft edges is not THAT bad. I tend to focus too much on the whole picture, quality wise, and soft edges is not my thing. But, that is only my opinion. Hey, I love wide angle, just hate that most wide angle lenses cannot stay sharp throughout.
Overall, I thought the show was nice. Definitely showed a lot of work and time put into it. Personally it is not my style of work, but I respect the work shown and the photographer who shot it. We all have our own styles and views.
That is all I have to say at the moment.
Take care everyone.
